Pastoral Counseling Disclosure & Informed Consent
Eight Seventeen Counseling is committed to providing ethical, Christ-centered pastoral counseling rooted in biblical principles, compassion, and respect for every individual we serve. The following information is provided to ensure clarity, transparency, and informed consent.
Nature of Pastoral Counseling
Eight Seventeen Counseling provides pastoral counseling services offered by Licensed Pastoral Counselors credentialed through the National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA).
Pastoral counseling integrates spiritual guidance, biblical truth, and emotional support. It is distinct from licensed professional counseling, psychotherapy, or mental health treatment. Services offered are faith-based and intended to support personal growth, emotional healing, and relational health from a Christian perspective.
Scope of Services
Pastoral counseling may include:
Biblical guidance and prayer
Emotional support and encouragement
Temperament-based insight (ARNO Profile System)
Relationship and life transition support
Goal setting and spiritual growth
Pastoral counseling does not include:
Diagnosis or treatment of mental health disorders
Psychological testing (other than temperament assessments)
Crisis intervention or emergency mental health services
If a client’s needs fall outside the scope of pastoral counseling, appropriate referrals may be recommended.
Confidentiality
Confidentiality is a core value of Eight Seventeen Counseling. Information shared during sessions is respected and protected to the fullest extent possible.
However, confidentiality may be broken under the following circumstances:
If there is risk of harm to the client or others
Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult, as required by law
When legally required by court order or subpoena
Client Responsibilities
Clients are encouraged to:
Participate actively and honestly in sessions
Communicate openly about goals and concerns
Ask questions about the counseling process
Take responsibility for personal decisions and actions
Pastoral counseling is a collaborative process, and growth is most effective when clients engage willingly and consistently.
Fees, Payments, & Cancellations
Payment is due at the time of service. Fees are discussed and agreed upon prior to beginning counseling.
Cancellations or rescheduling should be made at least 24 hours in advance. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee.
Emergency & Crisis Situations
Eight Seventeen Counseling does not provide emergency or crisis services. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, suicidal thoughts, or are in immediate danger, please contact: 911 or your local emergency services 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (U.S.)
Clients needing higher levels of care may be referred to licensed mental health professionals or emergency services.
